According to the National Institutes of Health and the International Dyslexia Association (Nov. 12, 2002),
“Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.”
Dyslexia is not a desease and it is not due to brain damage or a lack of intelligence. It can manifest itself in different ways, in fact there are several types of dyslexia:
- The acquired dyslexia occurs when due to a trauma the patient loses the ability to read.
- The developmental dyslexia is more frequent and it occurs in children when they begin the journey of learning to read. Usually these children have difficulty recognizing letters, difficulty whit language comprehension and whit fluency of language.
